City council approves The Refuge's request for Hope Fest 2012 gathering
The Refuge has been cleared to hold Hope Fest 2012 on June 21-24.
The Detroit Lakes City Council approved a request by The Refuge to host a gathering on its property along Tower Road. The land has been donated to The Refuge for a future women's shelter.
In a letter to the council, Executive Director Randy Kohler said The Refuge plans to have a variety of speakers, concession stands and a pitchfork fondue dinner and other events as a fundraiser for The Refuge. It also includes A Generation United for Jesus youth night and meetings and worship music throughout the long weekend.
The plan originally included camping at the site but that was dropped later.
The city council approved the public gathering permit with several conditions, including following the noise ordinance, getting any needed state licenses and permits, notifying businesses in that area of extra traffic those days, having someone directing traffic in the area, and having the site plan approved by the city.
