Man gets prison for having drugs
A Fargo man has been convicted and sentenced in Becker County District Court on a felony charge of drug possession.
Mark John Walz, 55, of 3207 Bohnet Blvd. N., Fargo, was sentenced to 13 months in prison and fined $135. A related petty misdemeanor charge of possessing prohibited drug paraphernalia was dismissed.
Walz was charged in connection with a Dec. 2, 2010 incident at the Minnesota State Patrol offices in Detroit Lakes.
According to the criminal complaint, Walz had contacted the State Patrol about picking up some property that was inside a vehicle he owned when it was seized as the result of a November arrest.
After speaking with Sgt. Ron Eischens at the State Patrol office, Walz was talking on the phone with someone when he reached into a coat pocket and caused a glass pipe to fall out. The pipe later tested positive as containing methamphetamine residue.
Eischens then asked Walz to empty his pockets, at which time he pulled out a "one-hitter" marijuana pipe and a tin box that was found to contain marijuana.
