DL man wins car from Menards
Jim Armstrong, Detroit Lakes, was so used to registering for the giveaways from Menards that he just automatically did it when walking past the kiosk in the Elk River, Minn., store.
It paid off.
On Monday, Dec. 3, Jim and his wife, Joyce, were presented with their new Chevy Volt car at the Detroit Lakes Menards store.
"How do you like how noisy the motor runs," Jim said with a laugh as the electric car made no sound at all.
Detroit Lakes Menards General Manager Rob Kupfer said that he called Jim a few weeks ago to introduce himself and get the paperwork process started.
The Armstrongs then came into the Detroit Lakes store, filled out the paperwork -- winners are responsible for taxes and licensing fees -- and the car arrived at the store about a week ago, Kupfer said.
When Jim and Joyce came to pick up their new vehicle on Monday, they were met with store employees giving them a congratulations and round of applause. The couple was able to drive off in their new vehicle.
Each month, Menards corporation gives away a prize like a vehicle, ATV, boat, etc. For November, it was the Volt. For December, it is a Ford Explorer.
People can register in the store kiosk once a day, as many days a month as they wish. The winner is drawn from all names submitted all month from all locations.
It was only about a year and a half ago that a Frazee couple won a new truck. The prizes are brought to the store closest to the winner, not necessarily where they registered.
Kupfer said it's pretty great to have two winners from this area in such a short time span.
