Legion, Auxiliary meeting

The American Legion Post and Auxiliary meet at 7 p.m. in the DL Legion.

Holmes Cabaret Night

Unwind after a long day at work with cocktails, appetizers and exceptional musical performance by folk singer David Stoddard from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Holmes Theatre with Cabaret Night. Stoddard has recorded five original CDs, has won awards at folk festivals from Minnesota to Florida, and has been compared to greats like John Prine and Lyle Lovett.

Ramsey benefit

A benefit dinner for Jim and Karina Ramsey, who lost their home to a fire, is from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Community Alliance Church. Taco in a bag and fried ice cream dessert will be served. A free will offering will be taken.

PEO Chapter FG

PEO, Chapter FG, meets at 7 p.m. in the home of Kirsten Vogt. Kathy Larson will be assisting as hostess.

Community band

The Lakes Area Community Concert Band rehearses from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the Detroit Lakes Senior High band room. Kendra Mohn is directing. Use southwest doors. IAAP impact meeting

The Detroit Lakes chapter of the International Association of Administrative Professionals (IAAP) holds their annual 1-hour IMPACT meeting at 5:30 p.m. in the Minnesota State Community & Technical College, room B109. Aho benefit

A benefit for Mick and Gayla Aho is from 5 to 9 p.m. in Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Frazee. Donations from the free-will offering spaghetti feed will off set medical and living expenses. There will be a silent auction and bake sale as well.

Lenten Friday meals

Holy Rosary Knights of Columbus Council No. 3166 sponsors Lenten Friday fish and pizza dinner from 5 to 7 p.m. in the school gym with entrance off Washing Avenue.

Blood drive

DL Breakfast Rotary sponsors a blood drive from 8 a.m. to noon in the Boys and Girls Club. To make an appointment, call Brenda Eidenschink at 847-1946.

Refuge activities

The Refuge, Detroit Lakes, hosts free dinner every Saturday night at 5:30 p.m., followed by a guest speaker and music at 7. This week, enjoy a youth rally with Fernando and Lance and Katie Engst. For more info, call 847-1982.

Family Float Night

Bring your family in for a night in the pool at the DLCCC from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Water toys such as air mattress, noodles, lifejackets and tubes welcome. There will be fun contests, drawings and more. Family Float Night is free for DLCCC members, and there is a special day pass rate of $3 for students and $5 for adults for non-members.

Easter egg hunt

The Detroit Lakes Women of Today holds their annual Easter egg hunt at 10 a.m. indoors at the Washington Square Mall, across from Bliss. Children ages 0-8 are encouraged to participate and join in the fun.

Amateur Radio Club

The Detroit Lakes Amateur Radio Club meets at 9 a.m. in the Holiday Inn. Anyone one interested in Amateur Radio is welcome.

Kids pan fish derby

The lakes Chapter Minnesota Darkhouse & Angling Assoc., Quality Bait & Tackle and the VFW Post 1976 sponsor a kids pan fish derby from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in front of the Rossman Avenue access and Zorbaz on Little Detroit Lake. First 100 kids get jig sticks. Must be 12 or under and have an adult present. Grand prizes given at noon.

Ham bingo

The Callaway Lions host ham bingo at 7 p.m. in the Callaway Community Center. Proceeds go to community projects.

'One Sacrifice'

The Congregational Church, DL, presents the cantata "One Sacrifice" at 10 a.m. as part of its Palm Sunday service. This presentation draws on reflections of God's one voice and God's one great sacrifice.

French toast breakfast

Circles of Faith, United Church of Christ, hosts a French toast breakfast from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Waubun Community Center. Proceeds will go to Wider Church Ministries to help those affected by the February 2008 tornadoes in the southern states.

Frazee wrestling banquet

Palm Sunday breakfast

Retired Educators

Retired Educators meet at noon in the Holiday Inn. Speaker will be Doug Coen and Tom Oaks, showing a film and speaking on their experience on the WWII veterans trip to Washington, D.C.

Patty's High Tea

St. Patrick's Day High Tea is from 1 to 3 p.m. in Diamond Willow. It is open to the public. It's a day of Irish festivities, live music, Irish treats and tours.

PEO Chapter DQ

Chapter DQ, PEO, meets in the home of Sylvia Campion at 1 pm. Assisting hostesses are Margaret Gunderson, Stacey Abrahamson, Mary Seaworth and Mary Schutz. The program will be presented by Sally Oja. "Constructing Railroads in Becker County & Detroit Lakes."

Lenten Mission

Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Frazee, hosts a Lenten Mission with Fr. Paul Duchschere and Stella Marie Jeffrey, both from the Fargo Diocese, as speakers. Their talks will be centered on "Hope" from Pope Benedict XVI's newest encyclical. They are March 12 at 5:30 free meal, 6:30 talks, 7:30 penitential service; March 13 at 6 free meal, 7 talks, 8 confessions.

GED testing

Lakes Learning, the Adult Education component of the Detroit Lakes School District, holds official GED testing on March 18 and 19 in the Lincoln Education Center from 1-4 p.m. It is possible to complete all the five tests during this two day testing, and be qualified to participate in the 2008 GED graduating class. Call 847-4418 to pre-register. A student must have taken the practice tests before registering to take the actual GED tests.

Kindergarten round-up

Detroit Lakes Public Schools host kindergarten round-up March 31 from 1 to 6:30 p.m. at Rossman and Roosevelt elementary schools. Each session is one hour. For more info, call 847-9271.

Home, Garden Show

Don't miss the opportunity to see all that is new in home and garden technology. Lake Region Builders Home and Garden Show is March 29-30 in the Freeman Sports Arena. GED hours, testing

Lakes Learning, the Adult Education and GED component of School District 22, is open Monday and Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. in the Lincoln Education Center at 204 East Willow in Detroit Lakes. Actual GED testing is on Tuesdays at 1 p.m. Must pre-register before taking these tests. For more info, call 847-4418.

Reading therapy

The Detroit Lakes Library hosts reading with a therapy dog on Thursdays from 3:30-5 p.m. Call 847-2168 to sign up for a time. This is a good time for children to practice their reading skills by reading to a pet.

CPR classes

St. Mary's EMS offers CPR training on a regular basis beginning in October. It is open to the public for beginners or a refresher course. The full class meets the second and third Tuesday of each month, and cost is $50. The refresher course is the third Tuesday of each month, and cost is $30. Classes are from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. Class size is limited, and based on pre-payment enrollment. To enroll, stop by the office between 8 a.m. to and 5 p.m. or call 847-0817 to pay with credit card.
