Two missing snowmobilers in Lake of the Woods accident identified, wife and mother of missing from Frazee
LAKE OF THE WOODS - Two snowmobilers who went through the ice on Lake of the Woods Saturday afternoon have been identified as a father and son from Warroad.
Divers continued to search today for Wayne Windahl, 47, and Jeremy Windahl, 16, according to a news release from the Ontario Provincial Police.
There is an unfortunate local tie to the accident as Brenda (Holmer) Windahl, the wife of Wayne and mother of Jeremy, is from Frazee.
From a trail on Cyclone Island, the Windahls travelled onto the lake, came upon poor ice and went into the water. With them was a third man on a second snowmobile. He was able to cross the weak ice, the release states.
Cyclone Island is near Minnesota's Northwest Angle on the Canadian side of the lake.
