Karaoke winner to give performance in Frazee on Nov. 19
When she won the TV singing competition "Karaoke Battle USA" earlier this summer, and subsequently took the world karaoke title in Killarney, Ireland, a few weeks later, former Frazee resident Cassandra Mae Jopp landed a recording contract with Hollywood Records and a chance at becoming the next big music sensation.
Now that the media circus surrounding her dual singing titles has subsided a little, Jopp -- who is now known professionally as Cassandra Mae -- wants to celebrate with the family and friends that helped her along the way.
She is planning a special concert at the Frazee Event Center on Saturday, Nov. 19 from 6 p.m. to midnight. The cover charge for admission to this all-ages concert is $5 per person, though children age 10 and under will be admitted free of charge.
"It's an evening of fun and celebration -- basically just a big party where everyone can come out and hear us play," she said, adding that besides performing a full two hours of her own music, she will be joined on stage by The Fat Cats and other special musical guests throughout the evening.
"I'm going to have a ton of family and friends there," said Jopp.
Now living in Fargo, Jopp has been performing on a semi-regular basis at venues throughout the area, while working on finding just the right song for her debut single.
"We're going to cut a single, and if that goes really well, we'll do an entire album," she said.
While she would love an opportunity to write some of her own songs, Jopp said, "We're not that far into the process yet. We've been going back and forth with e-mails, and they're currently lining up some songs for me to listen to. I'm excited to see what they're coming up with for me."
Until they set up a date for her to record that first single, however -- she doesn't even know if she'll be going to Nashville or Los Angeles to do it -- Jopp has been playing "a waiting game."
"It's kind of nice in the meantime to be able to go and do some singing on the weekends," she said.
Jopp will also be performing at the Pit 611 in Audubon on Saturday, Nov. 12 at 9 p.m.
Other upcoming concert dates will be posted online as soon as they are finalized.
"I have a new website, cassandramaeofficial.com, where people can go for current updates, and I also have one of my original (songs) on there for them to listen," she said. "They can also go to my Cassandra Mae fan page on Facebook for any updates on what's going on."
