North Dakota House sacks bill to require UND-NDSU football game

BISMARCK - A proposal to encourage North Dakota State and UND to play each other in football has been blitzed in the state House.

Representatives voted 90-3 on Tuesday to defeat the idea.

UND and NDSU haven't played each other for six years. The century-old rivalry was put on hold when the Bison began the process of moving up to NCAA Division I in football.

As introduced, the bill would have required the two schools to play an annual football game. The game site would have rotated between Fargo and Grand Forks.

The measure was changed to encourage the game rather than mandate it. But it still got tackled in the North Dakota House.
