Junior Justine Lawrence returned to the Detroit Lakes gymnastics lineup after missing time and captured all-around honors to lead the Lakers to a victory over the Yellowjackets at Hauer Gymnasium in a Section 8A dual at Perham high school Tuesday.

“It was really good for Justine to compete,” said DL head coach Steve Zamzo. “After being sick for the first meet and then being gone last weekend, she did a great job. It wasn't a jam-packed meet for her. She still has a lot to show.”

The Lakers made their best showing of the early season scoring a season-high 147.825 to the Jackets’ 141.125 to earn the victory.

Lawrence outscored Perham’s Jada Olsen 37.6 to 37.375 to win the all-around. Lawrence finished first on beam with teammate Jackson Hegg and was second on bars to Olsen, third on floor behind teammate Lexi Yliniemi and Olsen and placed fifth on vault.

Hegg finished third in the all-around scoring 36.75.

DL dominated on balance beam taking the top four scores: Hegg and Lawrence with 9.45, Alexis Ostlie 9.25 and Peyton Jernberg 9.05.

DL had four of the top five marks on floor exercise: Yliniemi 9.625, Lawrence 9.45, Jernberg 9.4, and Hegg 9.25. Olsen was the runner-up scoring 9.475 and had the top marks on vault 9.6 with Yliniemi and bars 9.6.

The Laker junior varsity team also won scoring 129.45 to Perham’s 119.20 led by Jordan Ehnert, who won the all-around with a score of 32.7.

Detroit Lakes is on break from competition until Saturday, Jan. 6 when the varsity team heads to Park Center for an invitational tournament and the second varsity competes at Princeton.
