Loren Percy Thompson passed away at Diamond Willow in Detroit Lakes on Sunday, October 18, 2015.

Loren was born to Pedar and Laura Thompson on February 28, 1927 in Chicago, Illinois.

While serving in the Navy, Loren met and later married Mossie May (Janie) Apple in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, on October 8, 1946.

Loren graduated from St. Ambrose College in Moline, Ill., with a degree in physics. Employed by international corporations and with Janie by his side, he traveled the world on business and pleasure.

In 1976 Loren purchased Cedar Crest Resort on White Earth Lake. Loren was elected to a term in the Minnesota State House of Representatives from 1991 to 1992, representing District 10A.

In 1996 Loren and Janie retired to Bull Shoals, Ark., where he served a term as mayor. In 2009, he returned to Detroit Lakes.

Loren was preceded in death by his wife, Janie. He is survived by his son David (Sandy) Thompson, Mahnomen; daughter Diana (John) Karl, Waubun; and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
