Carol Ann Bellecourt

Carol Ann Bellecourt, age 78, of Detroit Lakes, MN, passed away on Monday, February 5, 2018, at Ecumen-Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes. A private family service will take place at a later date. Carol was born on February 17, 1939, to Carl and Haldis (Elaisen) Holmgren in St. Paul, MN. She grew up in St. Paul and graduated from high school in 1957. She went on to attend the Ritter School of Beauty in St. Paul, where she met Vernon Franklin Bellecourt. The couple were united in marriage on November 29, 1958, and they had three children. Carol and Vernon had two successful salons in St. Paul. In 1964, the family moved to Denver, CO. In 1965, Vernon and Carol opened their own salon and wig business. In 2002, she moved to White Earth, MN. She entered into the nursing home in Ashby, MN, in 2004, and then into Emmanuel Nursing Home in 2006; where she would remain until her passing. Carol was a very talented artist and stylist. She was a highly awarded cosmetology and won over 30 first place awards for her work in hair shows. She was also a skilled and talented painter in all mediums. Carol also enjoyed fixing cars and downhill skiing. She loved music and had an extensive rock-n-roll record collection from the 60s and 70s. Carol also loved dogs, especially her beloved Rottweiler, Valerie. She will be remembered for her kindness and generosity, as a person who would help those around her in need. She is survived by her three children: Denise (Mike) Levy of White Earth, MN; A. Marcus Bellecourt of Aurora, CO; and Bret Bellecourt of Park Rapids, MN; a brother, Gary Holmgren of Hugo, MN; four grandchildren: John Clark of White Earth; Adrianne Levy of White Earth, MN; Darrick Bellecourt of Park Rapids, MN; and Blaze Dauphinais of Frazee; seven great-grandchildren, with one on the way, and several cousins. She is preceded in death by her husband, Vernon; her parents, Carl and Haldis; maternal grandparents, Haakon and Ida Elaisen, and her grandmother, Augusta Holmgren.
