Letter: Happy Mother's Day

To me the moment I discovered that I was carrying a developing child, I was filled with awe. Though joyful, I was also concerned because we had lost our first child through miscarriage two years previous to this, so I didn't tell people until I was "showing" at around four months after conception. A healthy daughter, Lorelei, was born June 25, 1983 and seventeen months later we were blessed with a son, William, on November 22, 1984.

At the moment of conception, a women is a mother. Having a miscarriage or abortion doesn't change the facts.

The difference between my miscarriage grief and the ending of life through abortion is I had no choice. So many mothers are grieving because they were duped into thinking it was only a "potential life" and therefore it was their "right" to end that life. Tragically, many are forced by partners or parents into killing their child through abortion.

Planned Parenthood is an organization through which most of the lives of mothers are changed forever through the "freedom" that abortion gives women. One of their branches is planning to open here in Detroit Lakes. Margaret Sanger, who founded Planning Parenthood, believed strongly in eugenics. The goal of eugenics is to eliminate "the poor and minorities" which they consider the "weeds" in our society.

I personally know at least two women who in their 70s and 80s were, and are, still struggling with depression over their "choice" made many years ago.

I thank my Heavenly Father for people in organizations such as Minnesota Citizens Concerned for Life, National Rights to Life, Life Dynamics of Denton, Texas, and Christian leaders including Dr. James Dobson (Focus on the Family), the late Dr. D. James Kennedy and Rev. Jerry Falwell who are tirelessly holding up women, families and life. -- Connie R. Frank, Detroit Lakes
