Ventura gets leafy spurge; Roses to BCBS

LEAFY SPURGE: To former Minnesota Gov. Jesse Ventura for his continuing lawsuit against the family of a late Navy SEAL who wrote a book that included a report of a confrontation with Ventura outside a bar. Ventura said the fight, in which the author said he punched and decked Ventura, never happened. However, a parade of witnesses said in court last week that it did. Ventura’s flimsy claim is that the fight story shredded his reputation. That’s a laugh. Ventura went about the business of shredding his reputation as far back as his tenure as governor. He continued the process after he declined to run for a second term, and then got involved in several silly and ultimately unsuccessful cable TV ventures. It’s difficult to shred a reputation that’s been self-shredded already.

PRAIRIE ROSES: To Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Dakota for tapping an experienced executive to take over as president and CEO. In the wake of the firing of Paul Ebers over significant losses the Blues have taken, the choice of Tim Huckle is a good one. He’s been serving as interim CEO, and before that was the company’s chief operating officer. The board of directors made the unanimous choice last week, after several weeks of discussion and consultation. Huckle’s history with the company – through good times and less-good times – equips him to take on the top job. The company has the lion’s share of health insurance in North Dakota, and the quality of its management is important to thousands of North Dakotans. With Huckle at the top, the company is in good hands. — The Forum
