Defending their 2012 Region 14C championship will be a difficult task for the Detroit Lakes Angels, but it’s now or never starting Friday.

The Angels gained the No. 4 seed in the upcoming Region 14C and will open against Carlos Friday at 8 p.m.

The double-elimination format will have DL in Perham Saturday, with time depending on the result from Friday’s game in Carlos.

Bluffton downed the Angels last Friday in the semifinals of the Hi-10 League playoffs, winning 6-3.

DL had five errors in the game, which led to two unearned runs, while Brock Johnson took the loss on the mound after pitching 6.1 innings and allowing 10 hits and five runs – four earned.

The Angels scratched their way back in the bottom of the ninth inning with Kirk McLeod blasting his first amateur homer, which came on a two-run shot to pull DL to within 6-3.

But that was all to be, as the Angels now ready for the Region 14C playoffs.

The Braves’ Dustin Geiser doubled in two runs in the top of the first inning, as Bluffton added a run in the third.

The Angels cut the lead to 3-1 in the bottom of the fifth, while the Braves added two more runs in the seventh and another in the eight to go up 6-1.

Kevin Tumberg pitched for the win for the Braves, with Geiser getting a save.

Other Region 14C matchups to be played Friday, includes: Bertha versus Staples; Nimrod versus Bluffton and Perham versus Clarissa.
