Football: Bombers start early for win

A fast start by the Waubun football team paced them to a convincing 50-20 victory over visiting Norman County West.

The victory helps offset a couple of back-to-back defeats, as Waubun (2-2) came out and executed well to jump on the Panthers (0-4).

“It was nice to see our boys come together after the last couple weeks of tough losses,” said Waubun head coach Paul Clark. “We executed in our option game extremely well early and that opened up some counters and play action for big plays.

“Our linemen were darn near perfect on assignments and the backs read them very well.”

Waubun pounced for 30 points in the first quarter alone, as four different Bombers scored.

They added 20 more points in the third quarter to seal the deal.

Waubun outgained NCW by a hefty 433-172 margin, while rushing for 402 yards, led by quarterback Jordan Spaeth’s 135 yards on 16 carries.

“Defensively, other than a couple of long kick returns, we played well,” Clark said.

“Our tackling was much improved and many of our young linemen played their best game of the year.”

Those scoring rushing TD’s included Spaeth, Ryan Weber, Dylan Donner, Alec Teiken and Dayton Makey.

Spaeth also hit each of Cole Thompson and Chris Manypenny on touchdown passes.

Waubun will gear up for conference and section foe Ulen-Hitterdal/Norman County East (2-2) Saturday at the Fargodome.
