A trio of Minnesota Flyer gymnasts qualified for the Regional Finals after making the cut through the Minnesota State Meet last weekend in Minneapolis.

Those who will be competing in the Regionals in Fargo April 10-13, include Justine Lawrence and twins Kennedy and Jackson Hegg.

“It’s a big thing for these three,” said Flyers assistant coach Leesa Lindgaard. “They have all worked very hard and had good, nice routines.”

Jackson Hegg recorded an all-around qualifying score of 35.425, while Kennedy registered a 34.3.

The Hegg twins will compete on the Level 8 Regionals, and will not be able to advance to the Nationals, but making it this far has been a big accomplishment nonetheless.

“I would like to finish in the top five at Regionals, but it’s been a good season no matter what,” Kennedy said.

“I’m happy I made it and hopefully I can make the podium (top five),” Jackson included.

For Lawrence, it will be her second time in Regionals at Level 9. Last year ended well for her, after she qualified for Nationals, which were held in Roseville, Calif.

Her experience making through Regionals will come in handy and obviously, she hopes it will be a repeat in Fargo.

“I was nervous at state, but I just kept working hard,” Lawrence said. “My goal is to return to Nationals, too.”

Having three advance to the Regionals is a good feather in the MFG cap, as well.

“This shows we are improving every year and producing good gymnasts,” Lindgaard said.

The MFG had 40-plus gymnasts participating in competitive meets through the 2013-14 season on Levels 4-9.

Other Level 9 MFG gymnasts who competed at State, included Molly Lyngaas (33.5), Alexis Yliniemi (33.725) and Emily Smith (32.075).
