The Detroit Lakes Angels will be vying for their fourth Region 14C title after earning another berth into the tournament with a 3-0 win over visiting Wadena-Deer Creek last weekend.

The Hi-10 top seed Angels then fell to No. 2 Bertha 10-1, which forces DL to beat either New York Mills or Bluffton Saturday to play for the league championship in Bertha Sunday.

“We are going for the highest region seed we can,” said Angels co-manager Phil Kirchner.

The Region 14C tournament will be held in Dent, with the four Hi-10 teams already earning their berths in DL, Bertha, Bluffton and New York Mills.

Angels’ ace Brock Johnson shut down the Shockers’ bats and went the distance for the win.

Johnson is 5-0 on the season with a paltry .040 ERA and is one of the top pitchers in the area, along with Bertha’s Pat Riewer.

Taylor Fuhs had two hits and all three RBIs, while Connor McLeod added two runs scored.

Bertha rolled over the Angels as the combination of Patrick, Mike and John Riewer registered 19 strikeouts, as the Blazers also notched three homers.
