Panthers add to Hornet baseball struggles
After an impressive 11-2 start to the season, the Frazee baseball team has lost five of six games to fall out of contention for a conference title.
A loss of two games at Perham May 18 gave the Yellowjackets the upper hand in the Heart O’ Lakes awaiting Barnesville as the only other two-loss team in the standings. Frazee completed HOL play at 7-5 to capture at least a share of third place.
Barnesville has a doubleheader with Hawley before ending the regular season in a two-game set against Perham for the championship if the Trojans can take care of business against the Nuggets.
Frazee lost at Park Rapids Friday by a score of 9-6 to stretch the losing streak to three games.
The Hornets led 6-3 after three innings of play but the Panthers took command with a five-run fourth and an insurance run in the fifth.
Both teams had 13 hits in the game.
Rory Drewes led the way for Frazee going 3-4 with a run scored. Jaden Guhlke hit a two-RBI double. Jon Hoffman and Tanner Tappe both had two-hit games.
Park Rapids improved to 9-9 while Frazee fell to 12-7. The Hornets complete the regular season Tuesday, May 23 at home against Bertha/Hewitt-Verndale (5-12).
Section 8AA seeding will be completed Saturday, May 27. The Hornets are currently ranked fourth in the south half of the section behind Perham, Barnesville and D-G-F.
