Andrew Israelson of Staples, Minn, carded a 36-hole score of 140, with golf rounds of 71 and 69, at the Fargo Country Club on Monday, July 10, to qualify for the United States Amateur Championship.

The Championship will be held August 14-20 at the Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif.

Israelson was the champion at last summer’s 92nd annual Birchmont Golf Tournament at the Bemidji Town and Country Club. He was defeated in extra holes at the 2016 Pine to Palm by Michael Kosiek in championship match play.

This is the first United States Golf Association championship competition that Israelson will compete in, after nearly qualifying for the USGA Junior Championship in 2015.

Israelson is a sophomore player for North Dakota State University.
