Disse, Tracy set pool records at Staples

Every time Detroit Lakes swimmers and divers head to the pool this season records are in jeopardy.

Senior Emma Disse and freshman Jennifer Tracy knocked off a pair of marks at Staples in a the Lakers 135-47 dual victory over the Cardinals Tuesday.

Tracy was the first capturing the 200-freestyle with a new Staples pool record time of 2:03.80. Tracy led a sweep of the top three finishes in the event with Abbi Smith (2:20.74) in second place and Josie Retz in third swimming 2:21.18.

Disse scored 220.40 to set a new diving record and followed suit in leading a three-pack of Lakers with Jackson Hegg seven points back at 213.25 and Lexi Yliniemi in third place with 208.05. All three Laker efforts surpassed the pool record.

Ella Henderson won both freestyle sprints 25.86 in the 50 and 58.56 in the 100. Chelsy Johnson (1:00.92)  and Maddie Henderson (1:04.45) placed third and fourth in the 100. Evan Westrum was the 50-free runner-up (27.28); Rachael Bolar placed fourth (29.25).

Four Lakers finished atop the individual medley results led by Kaitlyn Peterson (2:35.15) and followed by Marin Westrum (2:46.22), Madi Gerdes (2:49.52) and Mckenna Ruchti (2:54.03).

Tracy picked up her second win in the butterfly 1:00.59 with Evan Westrum (1:05.08) and Elena Gilbert (1:15.88) in the next two positions.

DL swept all three varsity relay races. Retz, Addi Young, Evan Westrum and Johnson got DL off to a quick start winning the 200-medley in 2:02.79.

Emily Veronen was a standout for the Cardinals winning the backstroke in 1:10.74 and 500-free in 6:05.49. Young (6:18.06) and Lexi Gerdes (6:45.07) were DL’ top 500 swimmers in second place and third, respectively. Peterson (1:17.85), Johnson (1:18.25) and Young (1:20.86) finished second through fourth in the backstroke.

Lili Schneider won the breaststroke for Staples-Motley swimming 1:18.38. Maddie Henderson (1:26.29) was the runner-up. Retz (1:27.34) placed third with Smith in fifth (1:34.78).

The Laker junior varsity team was also victorious 107-38.

DL heads to Park Rapids Thursday, Oct. 5 in their next meet. Start time is 6 p.m.
