Girls hockey splits at Fergus Shootout

Detroit Lakes split a pair of games at the Thanksgiving Shootout in Fergus Falls over the holiday weekend.

The Lakers opened with a 3-1 loss to the Moorhead Spuds Friday, but rebounded to down Jamestown 4-0 on Saturday.

DL grabbed a 1-0 lead over the Spuds on a Karrigan Hallisey goal. Madyson Melgard assisted on Hallisey’s second tally of the year.

Moorhead responded with a pair of goals in the second period by Makayla Keller and Emma Cullen with the eventual game-winner five minutes into the period.

Bre Krejci added an insurance goal in the third period for the Spuds.

Moorhead outshot the Lakers 38-16.

Laker goalie Kyndra McDougall made 35 saves.

McDougall stopped 13 shots to record the shutout Saturday against Jamestown.

Abagail King scored two goals, her firsts of the season. Payton Carlblom had her first of the year and Hallisey also scored.

The Lakers led in shots 37-13.

Moorhead won the tournament defeating Fergus Falls Saturday in the title game 2-1.

Detroit Lakes (2-5) travels to Park Rapids (1-5) to face the Panthers Tuesday, Nov. 28 at 7 p.m. in a Mid-State Conference game.
