Bemidji storms Laker girls' basketball with second half scoring barrage

Basic basketball -- there are two halves and both teams play both.

The Detroit Lakes girls learned this Tuesday in a 61-47 loss to Bemidji.

The Lakers (13-10) came out hot by starting the game with an 11-2 run and eventually building a 31-24 half-time lead.

"We had a great first half," said head coach Mike Hoganson. "The girls came out focused and ready to play."

Much of the first half credit can be given to Laker senior Dani Labine, who had four three-pointers and a total of 15 points.

"Dani (Labine) really got us going with those threes," commented Hoganson. "It was a tale of two halves though."

The second half was a complete contrast to the first half with the Lumberjacks coming out on a 10-2 run in their favor.

The Lakers couldn't answer a hot Bemidji team and scored only 16 points in the second half -- 10 of which came from freshman Kayli Muckenhirn.

"Give credit to Bemidji for coming out fired up in the second half," said Hoganson. "They're a very good team and they stormed out of the locker room on a mission in the second half."

Three Laker girls scored in double digits Tuesday nigh in Bemidji -- senior Dani Labine (15), senior Morgan Lof (11) and freshman Kayli Muckenhirn (10).
