Frazee takes two from Lake Park-Audubon
In what proved to be a rather lengthy doubleheader which began Thursday and ended Monday, the Frazee Lady Hornets picked up two wins of 12-2 and 10-1 against the upstart Lake Park-Audubon Raiders.
The doubleheader was scheduled for Thursday and after the first game was completed, the second game started, but was suspended due to weather in the top of the third, which ultimately was completed Monday in Audubon.
In the first game, the Lady Hornets jumped off to an early 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first.
The first four hitters scored as Chelsea Nordquist reached on an error and then scored on a Kari Shipman triple, which was followed by a Stephanie Montoya double and a single by Jaclyn Mickelson.
The Hornets added to their lead as they scored single runs in the third and fourth innings and then scored three more in the fifth to go up by the score of 9-0.
In the top of the sixth, LP-A used a walk and a triple to break up the shutout an close the gap to 9-2.
In the bottom the sixth, the Lady Hornets scored three more times to win via the 10-run rule.
For the game, the Hornets banged out 12 hits.
Montoya led the way with three hits and she was followed by two hits apiece from Shipman and Mickelson.
Chelsea Nordquist, Abby Berven, Desi Gigstead, Sadie Stender and Erica Ratz all had one hit apiece.
Defensively, the Hornets committed two errors and were again led by Montoya's pitching, as she gave up one earned run and three walks, while striking out nine Raider batters.
The Lady Hornets used quick first inning to take a
4-0 lead in game two, as it started out much the same as the first game with the first four batters of Nordquist, Shipman, Montoya and Mickelson all scoring.
Again Shipman had a triple and Montoya had a double.
The Hornets added to their lead with two more in the third before play was stopped.
Once the game was resumed Monday, Brittney Blauert scored a third run of the third inning to give the Hornets a 7-0 lead.
The Hornets added one more run in the fourth and two more runs in the sixth which led to the eventual 10-1 score.
Offensively, Berven led the way with three hits and she was followed by Montoya and Mickelson, who had two hits apiece.
Overall, the Hornets scored their 10 runs on 11 hits, four walks and three Raider errors.
Defensively, the Hornets did commit two errors which led to LP-A's lone run.
Montoya again picked up the win as she struck out 14 Raider batters while giving up two hits in this game.
"These next two weeks will be full as we play the rest of our regular season schedule," said Frazee head coach Dave Trautman.
Frazee will host the majority of the section tournament the week of May 19-23.
