The Laker boys' tennis team ended their 2009 regular season on a high note beating Mid-State Conference foe Perham 6-1 Thursday evening.

The Yellow Jackets had no answer for the Lakers shots as they only won 25 of the 75 games play.

"It's a good way to end our conference season," said head coach Jim Hinson. "All of the kids gave good effort and played well."

Junior captain Jake Hartman capped off his season with a 6-0,6-3 win over Perham's Mike Buer to push his record in the conference to 5-3.

In the number two singles was eighth grader Isaac Fondrick, who controlled his match against Dylan Asheraff of Perham by winning 6-2,6-0.

Jesse Meyer improved his Mid-State record to 6-2 with a 6-3,6-1 win over his Yellow Jacket opponent.

The Lakers only match lost on the day came in the number four singles as sophmore Levi Nordine was edged out by his Perham opponent 6-4,6-2.

"I have been very happy with the good attitude," said Hison. "Also, the great sportsmanship displayed by our players this season has been positive."

The Lakers swept all three of the doubles matchups.

Seniors Mike Bogda and Tim Fouquette teamed up in the number two doubles slot and blanked their Perham opponents 6-0,6-0.

The win gives the Lakers the number five seed going into the section 8A team tournament next week.

Their first round match is Tuesday in Park Rapids against the number four-seeded Panthers.

The winner of that match will move on to the semi-finals on Wednesday.
