Raboin named SCSU men's hockey MVP

St. Cloud State University junior defenseman Garrett Raboin, a graduate of Detroit Lakes High School, was recently named as the Frank Brimsek Award winner for the 2008-09 season for the men's hockey team.

The award is presented annually to the SCSU men's hockey team's Most Valuable Player.

He shared the Brimsek Award with sophomore teammate Garrett Roe.

The Huskies' team captain in 2008-09, Raboin positioned himself as one of the nation's premiere defensemen in 2008-09.

He ranked sixth among Division I blueliners with 33 points, and earned All-WCHA Second Team honors for his efforts this winter.

Raboin ranked third on the team this season with 10 goals and 23 assists.

A two-time All-WCHA Academic award winner, Raboin also earned his second WCHA Scholar-Athlete award in 2008-09.

Last season, St. Cloud State University posted an 18-17-3 overall record and also charted a 13-13-2 record in the always rugged Western Collegiate Hockey Association under the leadership of head coach Bob Motzko.
