A pitchers' duel between the Detroit Lakes Angels' Matt Huberty and the Perham Pirates' Eric Weller was pretty tame for most of the game Wednesday night at Washington Ballpark in Detroit Lakes.

The bats for both teams finally appeared, though, as the Angels and the Pirates traded runs late, but Perham came out on top 4-3 in a Hi-10 League battle.

With the game knotted at three in the top of the ninth, Shane Miller scored from second when Huberty's throw to first on a bunt by Ryan Enger went into the outfield for what would be the winning run.

Miller led off the frame with a single and stole second.

It spoiled what was a great outing for Huberty, as he pitched a complete game. Despite giving up runs in the second and third, Huberty only gave up two hits over the next five innings.

"We didn't hit the ball, really," said Angles co-manager Phil Kirchner. "Give Perham credit, they made some great plays."

In the Angels' eighth, they looked to be the team gunning for the win. Detroit Lakes (11-9) scored twice to tie the game, coming back from a 3-1 deficit.

Doug Dickey and Zach Fullmer had RBI singles. With runners on second and third with two outs, Detroit Lakes couldn't bring the go-ahead run in, as Max Saarinen struck out to end the rally.

Nick Omberg had a tough night as well, as he went 0-for-4 and hit into a grounder for the second out of the eighth with two aboard.

Chris Gilson started the rally with a single with one out, and Kirchner walked. Both would score.

Detroit Lakes got on the board in the fourth when Dickey drove in Gilson from second with a double.

The Pirates had the early advantage as they took a 3-0 lead through three innings.

Weller hit a sac fly to center to score Tyler Doll for Perham's second run of the game, and Matt Schornack hit an RBI single to bring in Andy Kratzke. An error let Doll advance to third to get him into position for the sacrifice.

"They scored both of their runs off our two errors," Kirchner said.

Detroit Lakes had a chance in the ninth with the tying run on first, as leadoff hitter Taylor Fuhs singled and then stole second with two outs.

Gilson grounded to short in a close play at first that ended the game.

Weller went the distance for Perham in allowing seven hits and striking out five. Huberty struck out six for the Angels.

Detroit Lakes took on the Dent Bulldogs on the road Friday, and return home Sunday to play the Dent Wildcats at Washington Ballpark starting at 7 p.m.
