Laker 2010 football schedule features four North Dakota teams
Due to the North Country Conference folding after this year, the Detroit Lakes football team will be heading west for several games during the 2010 season.
The Lakers will have four games against North Dakota teams, while maintaining an independent status for 2010.
With the closing of Duluth Central school and Thief River Falls joining the Heart O'Lakes Conference last year, the North Country Conference has only four teams remaining -- DL, Duluth East, Duluth Denfeld and Grand Rapids.
The limit to be a conference is five teams.
The Lakers will open at home against Shanley (Fargo), while week two will see DL traveling to Bismarck, N.D.
DL will travel to two other North Dakota schools, including Fargo Davies (Sept. 24) and Grand Forks Red River (Oct. 8).
The three North Country Conference teams are still on the schedule, with home games against Grand Rapids (Sept. 17) and Duluth East (Oct. 22), while the Lakers will travel to Duluth Denfeld (Oct. 1).
Thief River Falls also stays on the schedule with an Oct. 14, home game against the Prowlers.
There are not any plans on slate to join another conference in the near future, making scheduling that much tougher as an independent for DL.
