Laker boys' cross-country are Mid-State Conference champions

Hard work does pay off.

The Detroit Lakes boys' cross country team found that out Wednesday in Park Rapids after winning its first Mid-State Conference title in over a decade.

The Lakers won the Mid-State Conference championship after recording 31 points to second-place and favorite Staples-Motley's 42 score.

Not only do the Lakers bring home the team title, they have an individual champion after senior Leif Johnson won the meet with a time of 16:18.28.

Two of the Laker runners broke the 17-minute mark for the first time this season to key the Mid-State victory.

Junior Dylan Ramstad-Skoyles finished fourth with a mark of 16:27.97, while Wes Bakken hit a personal best time of 16:59.47.

Luke Wiebolt was the final Laker to earn Mid-State All-Conference honors with a ninth-place finish with a time of 17:07.59.

The DL girls team finished fifth, as Marie Yo-kan finished sixth with a mark of 15:32.60 for All-Conference honors.
