Indians blank Gators 44-0

A dominating defensive effort by the Mahnomen Indians keyed a 44-0 blowout victory over visiting Badger/Greenbush-Middle River Thursday.

The Indians limited the Gator offense to just 77 total yards and five first downs.

A 22-point second quarter didn't hurt matters for Mahnomen, as they led 28-0 at halftime.

"Our defense dominated from start to finish and there were no standouts, just a good team defensive effort," said Mahnomen head coach John Clark Jr.

"We finally made some plays on offense. It was nice to see some kids make plays we've been missing on some of the past few games."

Mahnomen quarterback Dylan Stevens connected for three touchdown passes to Alex LaVoy (14 yards), Brandon White (17 yards) and Joe Starkey (six).

Stevens added a 25-yard touchdown run, while LaVoy and Andy Krebsbach each had end zone rushes of 53 yards.

Stevens also led the way in rushing with 98 yards on 12 carries (8.2 average), and threw for 68 yards on a 5-9 night.

An interesting stat came in the kicking game, where four different kickers converted PAT attempts, including Stevens, Zach Neis, LaVoy and Garret Hoffner.

The Indians' offense picked up 335 yards, including 267 on the ground.

Mahnomen (4-3) will wrap up the regular season Wednesday at Red Lake County (4-3) in Red Lake Falls, starting at 7 p.m.
