The Detroit Lakes girls' swimming and diving team set two records during the Mid-State Conference meet, while the Perham Yellowjackets won the gold with 418 points Friday inside the BTD Aquatics Center.

Junior Libby Larson became the new 500-yard freestyle conference record-holder with her 5:32.72 time, which topped the former time of 5:35.59, set by Emma Lawrenz in 2006.

The Lakers were not finished with their record setting, as the foursome of Melissa Paakh, Andrea Weiss, Ashtin Spies and Larson set the pool record in the 400 freestyle relay team with a mark of 3:59.05.

That toppled the Fergus Falls' record of 5:40.93 set in 2008.

Depth was the key issue for the Lakers in the overall meet, as the Lakers finished third to first-place Perham and second-place Park Rapids.

The Lakers had six event winners and four silver place finishes.

Senior Shayna Dugger defended her conference crown in diving with a score of 324.45, while junior Bre Halbur finished third with a 300.40.

Paakh was the 100-butterfly champion with a 59.39, while Larson claimed her third title of the meet by winning the 200 freestyle with a 2:06.98.

Junior Andrea Weiss scored a victory in the 50 freestyle with a time of 26.79, while Ashtin Spies was second at 27.25.

Spies won her gold in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:05.05.

The Lakers will prepare for their Section 8-1A meet in Warroad, Friday, Nov. 13.
