Feldt earns Outstanding Wrestler Award in Fosston wrestling tournament

Detroit Lakes senior Alex Feldt is coming off his best season as a wrestler and it's already rolling over into the 2009-10 schedule.

Feldt pinned his way through the 171-pound division during the Fosston Alfred Olson Memorial Tournament Saturday, garnering a class title and the Outstanding Wrestler of the Tournament Award.

Teammate Gabe Foltz also captured a weight championship, after he pinned Red Lake County Central's Jacob Magnell in 3:31 in the title bout for the 103-pound banner.

Overall, the Lakers finished third as a team with 168 points, behind first-place Crookston with 216 and Mahnomen/Waubun's 201.

DL placed 10 wrestlers out of 14 divisions, including runner-up finishes by eighth grader Parker Jackson in the 125 slot and Mike Bellefeuille at 119.

The Lakers also had a trio of bronze finishers in Justin Tweeton (140), Travis Sims (160) and Ben Gailfus (189).

The Lakers will next host Mahnomen/Waubun Thursday at 7:30 p.m. inside Ralph Anderson Gym.

In Sunday's Becker County Record, the wrestling photo on page 1B was misidentified. The Detroit Lakes wrestler is Tony Sims, not Jarett Nosel.
