Detroit Lakes boys bulldoze Frazee 84-36

All cylinders were hit for the Detroit Lakes boys' basketball team as they throttled the visiting Frazee Hornets 84-36 Friday.

The Lakers lit off from the get-go as they built an insurmountable lead, which led to a 60-17 advantage by halftime.

A full-court press keyed a 12-0 start, then pressure defense -- along with a strong offensive showing -- was all DL needed from there on out.

"We knocked down our shots and were able to run the floor," said DL head coach Robb Flint. "The guys were passing the ball around well. It was one of the best passing performances I've seen a DL team have."

All DL players were in the scoring column, with four earning double digits in Joe Mollberg (11 points), Tyler Fode (10), Connor McLeod (11) and Josh Stalberger (12).

DL was also 14-18 from the free throw line.

Frazee sophomore forward Daniel Janu led the way for the Hornets with 23 points.

After losing their first three games of the season, the Lakers are now 2-3. They played in Thief River Falls Friday (results in Sunday's Becker County Record) and will play in the St. Francis Holiday Tournament Dec. 29-30.

They open against Zimmerman and will play either Dassel-Cokato or St. Francis Dec. 29.

"We are going down there to hopefully win the tournament, since we were runners-up last year," Flint said. "The guys are playing with confidence after that Pequot Lakes win, which was a quality win. We know we can play with anybody competitively."
