SCSU's Raboin named WCHA Men's Hockey Player of the Week
St. Cloud State University defenseman Garrett Raboin, who helped his Huskies to a pair of league victories over visiting Michigan Tech last weekend with strong play at both ends of the ice, has been named the Red Baron WCHA Defensive Player of the Week for Jan. 6-11, 2010.
A 5-11, 175-pound senior from Detroit Lakes, Raboin was a force at the blue line for the Huskies in the a weekend sweep over MTU on Jan. 8-9 at the National Hockey Center.
Last Friday, Raboin helped SCSU gain a 4-2 win with his defensive efforts, limiting MTU to just 23 shots on goal and only one even-strength goal in the match.
A leader on special teams for SCSU, Raboin also helped the Huskies score three power-play goals.
To complete the weekend, Raboin ignited the Huskies in a 5-1 victory over MTU last Saturday.
He scored the game-winner at 13:05 into the second period, with the first shorthanded goal of his collegiate career.
He also drew a first period assist, and later scored on a power-play goal in the third.
The game's No. 1 star, Raboin had two shots on goal in the game and was plus 1 in the plus/minus stats.
On special teams, Raboin helped SCSU score five power-play goals on 12 man-advantage opportunities and limit Tech with a 6-of-7 effort on the penalty-kill.
On the season, Raboin now has three goals and nine assists for 12 points from the blueline.
This marks the second time in his career that Raboin has earned WCHA Player of the Week honors.
