Laker boys' hockey pounds Wolves

DETROIT LAKES - A goal-scoring avalanche by the Detroit Lakes boys' hockey team overwhelmed an outmatched Walker/Hackensack-Akeley squad in a 15-1 lambasting by the Lakers on Tuesday.

The Lakers (9-2-2) proved to be dominant, as they moved the puck extremely well throughout the game and put up 47 shots on net.

The first line of Tanner Lane, Alex Phelps and Nate Baker scored nine of the 15 Laker goals.

Baker had five goals, while Lane and Phelps each had two.

The Lakers' second line saw Brett Provo notch his sixth score of the season and Nate Ginnaty his second.

The third line also notched two goals by Andy Schupp and one by Alex Mason.

To cap off the night, the fourth line contributed a goal, as Cody Olsen got his first varsity goal ever.

Goalie Blake Murphy wasn't very busy, stopping five shots to take the win.

The Laker junior varsity notched their second win in a row, taking the Wolves down 8-0.

After a slow start, the Lakers turned on the jets by scoring two times late in the first and five times in the second period, then adding one more in the third.

Landon Hochstetler got the hat trick and Garret Hill added his first two of the season.

Single goals by Cody Olsen, Austin Starkey and Zach Saunders gave the Lakers the 8-0 win.

Michael Brunner stopped all 19 Wolves shots to get the shutout.

The Lakers made a trip to the north country this weekend, facing Two Harbors (2-12) Friday and Silver Bay (3-11) Saturday.

DL will host Crookston (2-10-1) Tuesday for a 7:30 p.m. start.
