Three Lakers in contention for State Nordic ski meet

CAMP RIPLEY - The Detroit Lakes boys' and girls' Nordic ski teams have three skiers in contention for a state berth after racing the Classic portion of the Section 8 pursuit race today at Camp Ripley.

Jake Richards is currently second after racing for a 16:50 time, just four seconds off the leader Brainerd's Matt Lee.

Dylan Ramstad-Skoyles trails in fifth place with a time of 17:50, as the top 10 finishers (not including the winning team) make state.

For the girls, eighth grader Berit Ramstad-Skoyles is on the fringe of her first state berth after finishing ninth with a time of 20:35.

The leader is Summer Ellefson of Ellefson Home School with a mark of 19:08.

Other DL boy placers in the classic include: Stephen Sinclair (27th, 19:51), Christian Tigges (35th, 20:38), Hunter Schleske (38th, 20:52), Montana Johnson (43rd, 21:14) and Anthony Meyer (44th, 21:30).

Laker girl classic finishers includes: Marie Yokan (21st, 22:45), Shannon Goetz (27th, 23:49), Miranda Olson (31st, 24:46), Celeste Koppe (33rd, 25:08) and Veronica Haverkamp (37th, 26:12).

The boys' skate race starts at 1:30 p.m. and the girls at 2:30 p.m.
