Detroit Lakes made a complete sweep at the Wildflower Tournament Monday, as the Lakers won the team title and Connor Hedstrom garnered medalist laurels with his even-par 72.

Karter Smith also landed second place individually with a one-over 73, while Michael Herzog was eighth with a 77 and Rick Hutchinson ninth at 78 to round out the Lakers' low-team score of 300.

"Those two have been solid since the start of the season and they are just hitting the ball well and looking pretty comfortable on the course," said DL head coach Bob Gorden. "They are also staying away from the big numbers on holes."

Mid-State Conference opponent Staples-Motley was second to DL with a team mark of 310, while Grand Rapids took third at 317.

Rounding out DL's first-team card was Ross Mickelson's 82 and Tyler Baukol's 85.

Thus far, the competition on the team during qualifying rounds just to earn a spot on the varsity team has been intense, as well.

"Since we have a spot open because Tanner Lane isn't back yet, the competition has been good qualifying for meets," Gorden said.

The Lakers' second team in the tournament scored a 333, led by Austin Rusness' 81 and Nate Ginnaty's 83.

DL's third-team shot a 361, with Sam Goral's 88 being the lowest.

The Lakers will play in the two-day Tri-State University of Minnesota Tournament Friday and Saturday, which will be held at the Hasting Country Club.

"It's an excellent field and I think we'll fit right in," Gorden added. "It will be a good measuring stick of where we're at."
