Lumberjacks too much for DL 5-2

The Bemidji boys' tennis team had just a little more Tuesday in a 5-2 win over the home-team Detroit Lakes boys' tennis team.

"Bemidji played very well and we struggled in several matches," said DL head coach Wade Johnson. "I believe we are capable of playing better than this, however, Bemidji came to play and competed and took the match from us."

The Lakers were swept in singles competition, but not without a fight by No. 2 Laker Tanner Duncan, who lost in three sets.

Duncan won set two 6-4 after losing the first by the same score to Adam Holter, but the Bemidji Lumberjack was able to rebound with a 6-2 third-set victory.

DL had a new combo in doubles play and it worked out well, as Thieris Galdino and Isaac Fondrick combined to topple Joey Wood and Levi Rick in No. 1 doubles action.

The DL duo made a sweep, but not without a 7-4 tiebreaker in set two.

Garret Duncan and Derick Brehm also won at No. 3 doubles, with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Ben Kloha and Hayden Byers.

The Lakers (3-2) will be in action Thursday in Park Rapids at 4:30 p.m.
