For the second time in as many weeks, the Lakes Area Screaming Eagles delivered some payback for one of their two losses on the season with a 42-17 thumping of the Minnesota Sting Saturday in Frazee.

After suffering a 21-18 loss in week two to the Sting, the Screaming Eagles have now reeled off four consecutive victories to improve their record to 4-2 overall.

The four-game winning streak has also been dominant, with Lakes Area outscoring their last four opponents by a combined score of 130-44.

"Unfortunately, we got off to a slow start because we didn't have any rhythm, due to not having many practices," said Screaming Eagles quarterback and head coach Jason McCloskey. "We've been pretty dominant the last two weeks against the teams who beat us earlier."

Both sides of the ball were played in dominating fashions, as McCloskey bombed the Sting's secondary for five passing touchdowns, while the Eagles' defense shut down Minnesota's rushing game to a paltry nine yards, while picking off three passes.

"We've added a few guys in our secondary and they have absolutely shutdown the other team's passing attack," McCloskey said. "The defensive line also had to play ironman football again (playing both sides of the ball), but they were able to stay fresh and dominate the line play."

After a Minnesota 49-yard pass play to put them up 7-0, the Screaming Eagles gained their lone touchdown on the ground on a Kyler Wegner five-yard end zone scamper.

A field goal by the Sting was the final threat put together by the visitors, as Lakes Area scored the next 34 points, all coming through the air.

"The offensive line kept me clean," McCloskey said of the offensive aerial attack. "We spread them out with three or four receivers and I got to pick and choose who I hit."

He chose wideout James Singer in the second quarter for a 45-yard TD bomb, then hit the speedy receiver soon after for a 38-yard scoring play.

The pigskin rain kept falling on the Sting in the form of two consecutive Bert Smith end zone grabs from five and 28 yards out to put L.A. on top 36-10.

Tarel Flanigan added McCloskey's fifth touchdown completion of the game on a 20-yard pylon-busting play.

The offensive and defensive line had to rotate to stay fresh, which worked to perfection, with five sacks by Hector Rosa-Vega, Phil Olson, Jim Jacobson, Ed Perrault and newcomer Brian Gillespie.

Wegner paced the Eagles' ground game with 87 yards on 16 carries, while Singer had 114 yards on four receptions.

McCloskey was more than proficient with 331 yards passing after going 17-29 for a 5-to-2 touchdown-to-interception ratio.

Lakes Area will host Brainerd Saturday in Frazee, starting at 7 p.m.
