Lady Hornets gain win and 1,000-point scorer

frazee's Alexis Tappe became the Lady Hornets' sixth player to reach 1,000 career points.

The Frazee Lady Hornets used a solid team- effort as they rolled to a 72-26 victory at Park Rapids on Thursday night, as Alexis Tappe joined the 1,000-point club during the game -- becoming just the sixth player in Lady Hornet history to reach the milestone.

Frazee (7-7 overall) raced out of the gates quickly and opened up a 17-1 lead as Park Rapids (1-10 overall) struggled to score. Seven different players scored in the first half as Frazee took a 41-13 halftime lead.

It was more of the same in the second half for the Lady Hornets, as the lead continued to grow and Tappe closed in on her 1,000th career point, which she scored about halfway through the second half.

"It is a great accomplishment for Alexis and her teammates as well," said head coach Dave Conzemius. "She has put in a lot of time to make herself a good player and she and the team will only continue to get better."

Tappe led Frazee with a solid all-around game, scoring 16 points while adding nine rebounds, seven assists and six steals.

Taylor Tappe, Ashley Bachmann and McKinzie Tangen all scored 13 points, as four players reached double figures for the second straight game.

Taylor Tappe also had nine rebounds and six assists, while Bachmann finished with five assists as well.

"It was a nice team effort by the girls as we passed the ball very well tonight, which led to a lot of high percentage shots," Conzemius said. "We have taken some steps in the right direction and we hope to continue to improve as the season progresses."

Frazee is back in action Monday, Jan. 23, when the Lady Hornets host Crosby-Ironton.

Lady Hornets one up Barnesville

Frazee downed the Barnesville Trojans Tuesday, as the Lady Hornets slowly pulled away from the Trojans in the second half to pick up their second straight HOL road win.

"We again had an excellent team effort with four girls scoring in double figures," Conzemius said. "We are a tough team to defend when we have many different girls scoring."

The first half was a fast paced back and forth affair that saw Frazee take a 37-33 halftime lead. The Lady Hornets continued on the torrid pace in the second half as Barnesville (6-6) cooled from the field.

For the game, Frazee shot 50.9 percent (28-for-55) from the field after struggling in its previous game against Crookston.

Alexis Tappe led the way, scoring 21 points to go with nine rebounds and nine assists.

Katie McCorquodale added a career-high 15 points, Taylor Tappe had 11 points and McKinzie Tangen had 10 points, six rebounds and five steals.
