Depleted DL matmen drop 3

dl's Luke Payne works on pinning D-G-F's Wyatt Whiteaker during their match Thursday.

A rash of injuries and illness has made an already young and inexperienced Detroit Lakes wrestling team into an even greener lineup.

Nonetheless, the Lakers still put out three solid performances, but still lost all in their home quadrangular Thursday.

"I thought we gave a great effort last night," said DL head coach Rob Ullyott. "We have had a series of injuries and sicknesses, which have taken some of our more experienced wrestlers out of the lineup, but the team that we are currently putting on the mat is doing their best."

In the past couple of duals alone, five starters have been out.

The Lakers lost to a rallying Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton team, which fell behind DL early 28-0.

DL won the first five matches, as Bronson Spies (103), Luke Payne (120) and Zach Baker (DL) all won by pin.

But the Rebels won the next seven of nine matches, capped on falls by Mason Remund at 220 pounds and heavyweight Jake Hanson to tie the score, 38-38.

D-G-F scored the victory by criteria.

The Lakers also fell to Greenbush/Badger-Middle River 40-25 and Moorhead 42-24.

State-ranked Gabe Foltz won both his matches against Moorhead and GBMR, while fellow state-ranked Parker Jackson also went 2-0.

The duo each won by forfeit to D-G-F.

The Lakers were a 47-6 victor in Park Rapids Tuesday.

DL will travel to Roseau Tuesday for a quad against the Rams, East Grand Forks and Walker/Hackensack-Akeley.
