LAKER WRESTLING Foltz gains his 100th win in TRF

Gabe Foltz (left) became the seventh Laker to win 100 matches.

A couple of milestones were reached by two Detroit Lakes wrestlers in the Thief River Falls Invite, where the Lakers finished sixth out of 16 teams Saturday.

Senior Gabe Foltz became just the seventh Laker in history to reach 100 victories, while freshman Parker Jackson was well on his way to the century mark after claiming his 75th win.

Both wrestlers won their respective weight classes, as Foltz rung up the 106-pound division with a 12-5 decision on Bemidji's Brian Maas and Jackson won the 138 slot with a 13-10 win on NYA's Austin Kidrowski.

Zach Baker also wrestled his way to the 132 finals, before falling to Jake Magnell of Red Lake County Central on a narrow 5-4 double overtime loss.

The Lakers had a total of six placers, as Nate Francis was fourth at 120, Austin Soyring fifth at 126 and Jarret Nosal fifth at 152.

Friday, DL dropped a dual in Perham 41-20, as DL won the first three matches, but dropped the next nine of 11.

Bronson Spies posted the major decision on Elliot Werner at 103, which was followed by a Foltz pin on Chase Curtis at 113.

Francis followed up with a 6-0 decision on Dylan Perrine, before the Yellowjackets started picking up their wins.

Jackson and Brandon Dahring won the 138 and 145 divisions, but Perham went 7-0 from there on out.

The Lakers will host the Mid-State Conference meet Friday, starting at 4 p.m., with Crosby-Ironton, Park Rapids, Staples-Motley, Pequot Lakes, Pine River-Backus and Wadena-Deer Creek all competing.
