Frazee girls can't complete comeback

The Frazee Lady Hornet basketball team staged a furious second half comeback, but just fell short as Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton held off Frazee for a 48-44 victory in Heart O'Lakes Conference action Thursday night in Glyndon.

The Rebels (12-4 overall, 4-2 HOL) played a nice first-half that saw them take a 30-15 halftime lead. Frazee (7-10, 2-4) struggled as 17 first-half turnovers limited scoring chances.

But the Lady Hornets committed only three turnovers in the second half while forcing D-G-F into several, which led to a spirited comeback effort by Frazee.

The Lady Hornets still trailed by 15 points at 36-21 with 10 minutes left when Frazee made its run.

Freshmen Kennady Barlund scored an old-fashioned three-point play to lead the Lady Hornets on a 15-4 run and cut the lead to just four points with three minutes remaining.

Frazee, however, was unable to get any closer as the Rebels made enough free throws down the stretch to secure the victory.

"I am so proud of the character that our kids showed tonight," head coach Dave Conzemius said.

"It would have been easy to fold being down 15 points at the half, but the kids dug in and battled hard in the second half in a very tough place to play."

Barlund led the Lady Hornets with a career-high 11 points and she also added five rebounds. Ashley Bachmann added nine points. McKinzie Tangen had a team-high eight rebounds and Taylor Tappe had seven. Alexis Tappe had team-highs in assists with three and steals with three.

"It was great to see Kennady play so well tonight," Conzemius added.

"You could just see her confidence grow as the game went on. All of the girls really did a nice job in the second half when we forced to scramble and get after them, and that is something we can take from this game and use in the future."

Frazee is back in action on Tuesday when the team hosts Park Christian.
