Frazee takes win over Indians

The Frazee Lady Hornets turned up the defensive intensity in the second half, which allowed them to overtake the Mahnomen Indians for a 60-46 victory in girls' basketball action Thursday night in Mahnomen.

"We came out very flat to start to the game and allowed Mahnomen to gain some confidence," head coach Dave Conzemius said. "We had a much better effort in the second half, especially on the defensive end."

The first half was a back and forth affair, which saw Mahnomen claim a 33-32 halftime lead, thanks to some good shooting and hustle plays from the Indians.

The Lady Hornets (13-12 overall) methodically pulled away from Mahnomen in the second half as Frazee held the Indians to just 13 second half points.

Alexis Tappe had a great floor game for the Lady Hornets with 18 points, 12 rebounds, nine assists and four steals. McKinzie Tangen chipped in with 10 points and five rebounds and Ashley Bachmann added nine points.

Jen Kersting led Mahnomen with 17 points.

Frazee will open the post-season on Thursday March 1, with their first round match up either at Pelican Rapids or at Wadena-Deer Creek.

"They had lost a few games in the last couple of weeks and you could tell that they had that extra determination tonight."
