Slow start doesn't hurt Hornets

It took approximately 10 minutes of football for the Frazee Hornets to get on track against host Bagley Friday, but when they did, they almost became unstoppable.

After trailing Bagely 7-0 in the first quarter, the Hornets reeled off 37 unanswered points for the 37-7 victory.

In the first 10 minutes, Frazee missed a field goal and they just were not playing on all cylinders, said Hornet head coach Jim Rader.

"During that stretch of time, we had multiple penalties, a missed field and had given up a 70-yard TD run," he said. "That is when the character and determination of the players kicked in."

Senior running back Bruce Lemon was the workhorse for Frazee, as he toted the ball 34 times for a total of 206 yards.

Senior quarterback Baxter Bachmann added two rushing touchdowns and threw for two to receivers Cody Nordquist and Jordan Ketter.

"The (players) truly laid it on the line for each other in the last three quarters," Rader said. "Secondly, they saw the benefits of the conditioning they had done in the preseason. As the game progressed, we totally wore down the Bagley players."

The Hornets (1-0) will host Mahnomen (1-0) Friday, which was a 46-6 winner over Pillager in the season opener.
