Laker cross country: DL girls win Mid-State title, boys finish second

The Detroit Lakes girls' cross country team claimed the Mid-State conference title Thursday night in Wadena with a score of 39, while the Laker boys finished second to Crosby-Ironton.

Laker 8th grader Kenzie Ostlie claimed the top spot for the girls overall, crossing the finish line with a winning time of 15:40.

She was followed by DL freshman Sarah Schumacher in 6th place with a time of 16:33, while sophomore Abby Ullyott finished just behind her in 7th at 16:34.

Also placing for the Lakers were senior Elisa Roe in 10th place, 16:37; junior Rachel Wentz in 15th, 16:49; senior Veronica Haverkamp in 17th, 17:00; and junior Anne Holzgrove in 19th, 17:07.

In the boys' meet, senior Michael Okeson continued to lead the way for the Lakers, finishing in fourth place with a time of 17:20.

He was followed closely by junior teammates Zach Foltz in 9th place with a time of 17:41; and Jacob Fritz in 11th with a time of 17:53.

Rounding out the Laker boys' scores were Isaac Clem in 19th, 18:29; Austin Askelson in 21st, 18:32; Richard Bellefeuille in 25th, 18:42; and Chace Metalak in 29th, 18:54.
