Thielen named All-Conference for MSU-Mankato football
The Minnesota State University Mankato football team moved up a spot in this week's American Football Coaches Association Top-25 poll, from sixth to fifth.
The change in the poll comes after MSU's 70-7 victory over Upper Iowa last weekend, coupled with then fourth-ranked Northwest Missouri State losing to Missouri Western State, 21-20.
DLHS graduate Adam Thielen is a captain for the Mavericks and leads the team in receiving, with 60 catches for 937 yards (15.6 ypc) and seven touchdowns.
He was one of 12 Mavericks honored as All-Conference.
Thielen played in his 43rd game as a Maverick in the win over Upper Iowa when he caught two passes for 40 yards.
Earlier this season, he was named the NSIC Offensive Player of the Week after recording 10 catches for 128 yards and three touchdowns at Winona State.
Additionally, he has retuned 12 punts for 239 yards - including a 70-yard punt return for a touchdown - averaging 11.4 yards per return.
Thielen hauled in season and career highs against Southwest Minnesota State, as he had 11 catches for 167 yards.
Thielen returned a season-high four punts for a season-high 83 yards and a touchdown against Upper Iowa. He was a First-Team All-NSIC South Division pick.
The Mavericks are one of three teams from the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference in the top-25, joining seventh-ranked Minnesota Duluth and 21st-ranked Sioux Falls.
The rating also marks the 29th time that MSU has appeared in the top-10 of the poll and the sixth straight week in which it has done so.
The Mavericks (11-0, 11-0 NSIC) will enjoy a bye this weekend before facing either Northwest Missouri State or Harding in the second round of the NCAA Division II Playoffs on Nov. 24. Kickoff is set for 12 p.m.
