It was a near perfect evening for Detroit Lakes eighth grader Molly Lyngaas, who recorded an all-around score of 37.275 in the Laker gymnastics team's convincing 139.15 to 132.9 win over visiting Bemidji Tuesday.

Lyngaas has come on strong during this young season, as she won each event with at least a 9.125 score or better.

"As an eighth grader, she has shown so much composure," said DL head coach Steve Zamzo. "She is as cool as the other side of the pillow. She is putting up senior-type of scores, just as an eighth grader."

Lyngaas scored an impressive 9.45 on beam, while taking a 9.35 on each of vault and bars, and recording a 9.125 on floor.

Seventh grade teammate Natalie Nelmark also had a good meet, notching second in all-around with a 34.85.

She was second in both beam (8.9) and vault (9.15), while seventh grader Emma Disse was second on floor with a 9.0.

The Lakers were just .85 off their goal of scoring a 140, but obviously, that will be in the cards in the near future.

"We had some falls on bars and beam, so those events have been a work in progress for these young athletes," Zamzo said. "I am content with our score tonight, but I know these girls could have done better. We just have some things to clean up on."

The DL junior varsity also won by a score of 123.95 to 106.75 over the Lumberjacks.

Skylar DeBoer took top honors in all-around with a mark of 31.05, while Kayla Wendt was second with a 27.9.

Winning events for the Lakers included Hannah Okeson on floor, Leah Chavez on beam, Claire Nelmark on bars and DeBoer on vault.

The Lakers will be in Park Rapids Friday for a 6 p.m. start.
