A relentless attack and constant pressure overwhelmed visiting Prairie Centre Saturday, as the Detroit Lakes boys' hockey team won its second game of the season 4-1 inside Kent Freeman Arena.

The Lakers (3-3) outshot the Stars (0-5) 43-26, as DL sophomore goalie MacKenzie Steele had 25 saves in the winning effort.

"We were balanced in every area of the game," said DL head coach Chris Denardo. "The guys came out and worked hard and just overwhelmed them. Our forecheck was very good and if we could have finished off better, we could have had 10 goals."

The attack was well spread out, as senior forward Taylor Magnuson opened the scoring on a power play opportunity 4:25 into the contest. Ryan Deconcini and Austin Rusness added assists for the 1-0 lead.

Before the first intermission came, Rusness put DL up 2-0 on a Michael Herrmann assist.

In the first period, DL dominated on shots 17-4, as the Stars evened things up in the second with an 11-10 advantage, but didn't have any goals to show for it.

The Lakers regained control of the game in the third period, outshooting the Stars by a 16-11 margin, as defenseman Dylan Bremseth scored DL's second power play goal on assists by Isaac Fondrick and Rusness.

Brandon Olson capped DL's scoring 14:26 into the final period, with Jonathan Hallisey taking up the assist.

"The younger players are starting to get comfortable and are playing better as a team," Denardo said. "Defenses can't focus just on one or two players, either, because we are having some spread out scoring."

Four different Lakers scored, while the six assists were served up by five different players.

"No one can key on anybody," the DL coach added.

The Lakers will travel to International Falls (2-2-1) to face the Broncos for a 3 p.m. start Saturday.
