A fast and furious start for the Detroit Lakes girls' basketball team ran right through to the end of the game, as the Lakers trampled the visiting Park Rapids Panthers 67-27 Thursday.

The Lakers (3-6) used an effective inside game, as three of their post players scored in double digits, led by sophomore center Shay Nielsen with 18 points.

Junior center Brooke Olson added 12 points, while senior Trisa Hutchinson had 10 points.

"Shay really has stepped up the last five to six games," said DL head coach Mike Hoganson. "Her intensity level has risen and she has really been more aggressive on the inside."

From the tip-off of the game, the Lakers kept the pressure on the Panthers, while converting high-percentage shots inside the paint.

By the eight-minute mark, DL led 22-6 and cruised the rest of the way.

"Brooke Olson also had a nice game and I thought (point guard) Kyley Foster was very unselfish with the ball," Hoganson said. "Karli Kerzman also was dangerous from the perimeter."

Kerzman drained a pair of threes, finishing with 10 points, as well.

Park Rapids (0-5) was led by Katie Klein's 12 points.

The Lakers will play in the Sartell Holiday Tournament Thursday and Friday. They will open with East Grand Forks (1-5) Thursday and play the winner of Sartell and Hawley Friday, if the Lakers win the opener.
