Frazee cagers go 1-1 in PR

The Frazee Hornets went 1-1 at the Park Rapids Tourney over the holiday break, losing to the host Panthers 65-50 and beating Nevis 69-60.

In the opening round, the Hornets never got into a rhythm offensively, while the Panthers hit a shot going into halftime which put them up by eight points.

The Hornets (2-7) battled in the second half, but were never able to overcome the deficit.

Cory Wokasch led the Hornets in scoring with 21 points.

A nice surprise off the bench was senior guard Zach Nelson, who added a career-high 13 points and also had four steals.

Other contributors included Cody Nordquist with six assists, Brady Bellefeuille with six rebounds and three steals and Austin Torma with five rebounds.

The next day, the Hornets played Nevis (5-4) and were able to come out victorious, 69-60.

"Everyone made a contribution in the victory," said Frazee head coach Jason Reierson. "We had four players in double figures and two more with eight and nine."

Tyler Olson led all scorers with 14 points. He also added six rebounds.

"(Cody) Nordquist had one of the most impressive defensive nights I have ever been around," Reierson said.

He also had nine points, all in the second half, while adding five rebounds, three steals and a block on the night.

Wokasch also had a nice night, scoring 13 points and adding five rebounds, plus three assists.

Sophomore Brady Bellefeuille had a great game off the bench, giving the Hornets 11 points and 11 rebounds.

Matt Tangen got back to his consistent self by scoring 12.

"He (Tangen) was more impressive handing the ball out though, with nine assists," the Frazee coach added. "The Hornets worked hard in all aspects of the game to achieve a team victory. It was nice to see us play so well together."

The Hornets will host Waubun Thursday for a 7:30 p.m. start.
