DL icemen lose 3 in Duluth

The Detroit Lakes boys' hockey team went out on a decent note for the Duluth Denfeld Holiday Tournament, but still finished 0-3 Thursday through Saturday.

The Lakers (4-6-0) lost a narrow 1-0 game to Bemidji (3-8-0) Saturday, after being outshot by a 32-16 margin. DL sophomore goalie MacKenzie Steele was solid in net with 31 saves.

The game was pretty clean, with only one penalty being called, which resulted in a Lumberjack power play goal 2:33 into the second period off the stick of Matt Serratore and the assist by Mike Sauer.

Bemidji's Gabe Heifort notched the shutout with 16 saves.

Friday's game was not as close, as St. Louis Park (2-8-1) took off early with a 3-0 first period lead, then proceeded to win 7-1.

Jacob Lukasavage had two goals, while Jerome Schuetzle, Noah Fortmeyer, Charlie Hills and Joe Kramer added the others.

The Lakers scored their lone tally in the third period, with Jacob Fritz notching the goal, and Brandon Olson and Taylor Magnuson each picking up assists.

St. Louis Park had 29 shots on Steele, with the sophomore goalie picking up 22 saves, while Eric Speicher notched the win with 17 saves.

The Lakers will travel to Fargo North Friday for a 7:30 p.m. start.

DL basketball teams in holiday action

The Laker boys' basketball team went 1-1 and finished third out of four teams in the Dassel-Cokato Holiday Tournament Thursday and Friday.

The Lakers (3-4) lost to undefeated St. Francis in the opening round 71-51, before recovering to topple the host team Friday, 60-36.

The DL girls' basketball team lost both of their Sartell Holiday Tournament games, falling to East Grand Forks 46-33 and Sartell 48-34.

The Laker boys will be in Fergus Falls Thursday for a 7:30 p.m. start in a big Section 8-3A tilt, while the girls will be playing Friday in Bemidji.
